Dark East Seas
Baltic Porter, 9.5%ABV, 36IBUs
In Germany, they call it the East Sea but we know it as the Baltic Sea and, from the Baltics, comes a dark and mysterious beer. The Baltic porter is boozy and complex. Fermented cold by lager yeast and cold-conditioned for many months to round out the stronger flavors positioned next to the clean lager profile. The flavors reminds one of an old school style Russian imperial stout but the body is light and crisp instead of thick and sweet. Can be thought of as a strong version of a German swartzbier. A really fun and unique style of dark beer!
Flavors include a balance of blended roasted and chocolate malts on top of a light-yet-malty base brought to life with fruity lager yeast combing to make flavors of liquorice, dark fruit, smoke, and alcohol.
