Did you know that 2023 is an important year for Cooper’s? 75 years in business this April! As a family, we’ve never been more excited to offer our business to Scranton.

To celebrate the start of this exciting year we did the only think we know how to do and that’s brew beer! How do you celebrate 75 years? How about a beer with 75 IBUs and 7.5% ABV and give it a goofy seafood-themed name? 🤷‍♂️

Old Crabber’s IPA
Pacific northwest coast IPA, 7.5% ABV, 75 IBUs

Crabbers have been known to be crabby and tend to drink bitter beer. Pacific Northwest-style IPA brewed with Centennial, Chinook, and flavorful Northwestern malts. Old school hops provide a citrus but dank hop quality which is then followed by pronounced bitterness that dries the mouth in preparation for the next mouthwatering sip. It’s been a great 75 years!

Did anyone order milk? Well we don’t have milk but we have milk stout!

Mooey the Manatee (served on cask)
Milk stout, 5.9% ABV, 35 IBUs

Manatees are known as sea cows but are actually more closely related to elephants… Mooey the sea cow is Silky and smooth. Rich English malt is enhanced by a blend of chocolate and roasted barley. A increased sweetness with the addition of milk sugar and flavorful crystal malts makes for a creamy beer that just goes down a little too easily! Served on the English hand pump to create a milky head. Mmm mm delicious!

2022 been a wonderful first year for Cooper’s Family Brewing and we have even more to celebrate!

A few months back, the city of Scranton awarded us with a grant in support of our new business venture. Our mayor, Paige Cognetti, presented us with the grant and to honor this gesture, we brewed up an American beer for the mayor of a very American city!

Cognetti’s Cream Ale
Cream ale, 5.3% ABV, 19 IBUs

Light and refreshing ale that drinks like a Pilsner but reminds you it’s an ale with its delicate yeast flavors. America is known for corn, and a true American ale is brewed with a healthy dose of it as this is- which adds the needed crispness. A moderate alcohol and mild hop profile make this for an easy-drinker!

Santa is coming to town! But instead of milk and cookies, we brewed up a beautiful Belgian Christmas ale for him!

Cooper’s Family Christmas Ale
Belgian strong dark ale, 9.5% ABV, 21IBUs

For this beer we decided to bottle a few cases for our Christmas seafood market (sold per bottle) that are also for sale in our gift shop. Wax dipped and original artwork!

Christmas is a time of celebration which causes breweries across the globe to brew up a special batch of beer that is rich in flavor and full of love. Our Cooper’s Christmas ale is just that- Special! A darker Belgium style ale that is lightly spiced with vanilla bean, licorice root, chamomile flowers, bitter orange peel, and cinnamon to enhance the fruity Belgium yeast. Rich malts pair with a jolly Christmas spirit to say Merry Christmas from The Coopers!

Fresh beer is here! A black lager for the blackest time of year!

Black Spot Lager
Schwarzbier / Black lager, 5% ABV, 23IBUs

If you’ve never had a Schwarzbier before, it’s essentially the dry Irish stout of Germany. The concept is a light and easy drinking beer with a smooth but not cloying roasted or chocolate character which this is exactly that! The lagering creates a clean crispness that allows one to marvel in the complexity of this seemingly simple beer!

A pirate with the black spot would be destined for Davy Jones Locker but this beer makes it worth it!

You know what fish we sell the most of? Haddock. You know the craft beer style we serve the most of? Hazy IPAs! So we decided it was time to start naming our hazy IPAs after our beloved fish!

Henrietta the Haddock’s Hazy IPA
New England IPA, 6.8% ABV, 44 IBUs

Big and juicy New England IPA brewed with loads of late addition American hops. Oats, wheat, and English yeast pair with the light bitterness alongside the citrus and tropical fruit flavors to make for a smooth-drinking 6.8% IPA! Citra, mosaic, and Amarillo hops dominate this clean flavor profile.
