We’ve got something special this Friday (2/24)! We are cask conditioning our Irish golden ale and cream ale for firkin Friday. The event will help raise money for the Scranton Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee and all sales from these two cask will go directly to helping this organization!

What is cask-conditioned beer? It’s fresh beer that is transferred to a sealed cask where it undergoes a secondary fermentation and clarification. If you have heard of the bottle conditioned beer popular with Belgian breweries, this is a similar concept. Naturally produced CO2 carbonates the beer at a moderate level and the beer is served at cellar temperature to allow for these beers to showcase their malt and hop profiles unlike a brite tank conditioned beer would. Once tapped (with a giant mallet) at the time of the event, they are best enjoyed that night because the beer is manually dispensed out of a spigot.

Properly conditioned and fresh cask beer is a true joy of the beer world and if you’ve never tried it, come down and have a pint! If you’re uncertain and think you just don’t like beer from cask, maybe we can change your mind!

Das Hafenmeisters Hefe
German hefeweizen, 5.8%ABV, 15 IBUs

This is the harbormaster’s favorite- the German wheat beer. Pilsner and wheat malts create a light color and soft body while the traditional yeast produces flavors of clove and banana. The hefeweizen has been known to ship people into a love of craft beer with its easy, flavorful, and unique character. A fresh Hefeweizen is a good reason to get excited! Dark mild, 3.7% ABV, 20 IBU

When you want to drink light beer but also want flavor you can ponder over, Sir Frederick’s English Mild is right for you! A classic but not-so-classic New England IPA. The classic light and balanced malt profile with a pleasant dose of flaked oats & wheat. Medium bitterness with citrus undertones but then double dry hopped with the not-so-classic Belma and Huell Melon hops to create a fruity, grassy and somewhat tropical flavor that makes for a fun game of “guess that flavor!” It’s bound to make for a good time!
