Making a mess down in the brewery getting ready for our annual Oktoberfest celebrations… we’ve been brewing exclusively German beers for the past 6 weeks so Scranton could enjoy amazing beer alongside our wonderfully prepared German fare. Today we are beginning our cask conditioning of a traditional Altbier for an event on Wednesday September 24th- Cooper’s Family Brewing German beer night at the Stammtisch where we will sample/learn about all these wonder brews and play all our favorite Oktoberfest games such as the stein hoist! We will also have a “meet the brewer” event on October 5th in the lighthouse where you can discuss/drink house brewed beer before the Oktoberfest band starts. We will be posting about that soon along with an entire Oktoberfest event calendar for sept 22nd -October 12th.

If you love beer, you probably love German beer because most beer in this world has been brewed from traditional German methods!

How did we get half way through August already… summer isn’t over and the fresh beer is still flowing! A big double IPA is the perfect beer to help close out the summer!

Larry the Leviathan
Double NEIPA, 7.7% ABV,48 IBUs

Larry the Leviathan is strong beast although maybe not the best looker. This colossal Double Hazy IPA surfaces from the depths with an imposing malt backbone and a swell of hop intensity. The apple-cider-like appearance hides layers of biscuity malt from PA’s own Double Eagle Malting giving the beer an almost chewy body! Hopped and dry-hopped with Galaxy, El dorado, Eukanot and Krush hops for a punch of citrus and stone fruit flavors. A beer as big and bold as the open ocean—steady yourself before it pulls you under, me hearty.

Marie’s Lemon Meringue Radler
Lemon radler/ shandy, 5.5% ABV

Named after our beloved Chef Marie, whose endlessly imagined deserts inspired this brew. This lemon radler or shandy is first brewed as a crisp German lager. Then lemon and a lemon-lime soda concentrate are added during a secondary fermentation. This refreshing radler bursts with tart citrus character balanced by a hint of sweetness from added lactose sugar. Poured on nitro, it cascades into a thick, creamy head reminiscent of whipped meringue, delivering a silky mouthfeel.

Wow has it been hot! Ya know what helps beat the heat? Beer, maybe a little lemonade… how about both? Well fortunately we combined the two and hooked the kegs up to nitrogen for an extra frothy pour. It’s quite refreshing!
